19 dead after commercial aircraft crashes into Lake Victoria in Tanzania
A chartered plane crashed into the shores of Lake Victoria, in eastern Tanzania, killing all its passengers and leaving behind a trail of destruction.
The plane, a Hawker Siddeley Harrier, caught fire as it was approaching the airport. It was carrying 44 passengers.
Eyewitnesses said the aircraft was struck by lightning after being struck by lightning on the way in from Njombe International Airport in Njombe, just west of the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
Two helicopters were called in to attempt to rescue survivors.
