Judge Judy wants Reese Witherspoon to portray her in a biopic about a woman who becomes a social media legend, and wants the actress to use her celebrity to raise money and awareness for the cause.
The idea made sense to me. It was something that I knew I wanted to do and I would be an incredible actress to portray someone so inspiring, but I didn’t know if I was ready to make the commitment to do it.
The film is her latest collaboration with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS), and her second with Reese. The first was “The Breakup King,” which premiered in January.
The biopic has been in development for more than a year, and production company The Actors Studio has been working with Reese for years over the film. They had the option to produce the movie, but when they signed Reese to the contract, they lost the rights. The Actors Studio, under its new deal with ATAS, now has the right to produce the film.
Judy was instrumental in launching the production company, and it’s something she’d like to continue doing in the future.
“You have to have someone with the heart of a star to say, ’If you’ll do ‘My Fair Lady,’ then I’ll do this,’” Judy said. “It’s a beautiful thing. It’s a dream come true and it will probably lead to other projects. I have a very, very good relationship with Reese and I love her. She is an extraordinary actor and I would love to work with her again. It’s just an incredible thing.”
Judy is also collaborating with Reese on a biopic about her former friend Hillary Clinton, which she is planning to produce.
Reese is in negotiations to star in the film and will play Clinton at various points during the course of the script. The project is not yet in production, but Reese’s involvement will put her in the driver’s seat. Judy has the option to produce the picture as well, which she is excited about.
