At least 1 dead, several others injured at Danny Ocean concert in Mexico

A gunman with an apparent right-wing militia identity who says he wanted to “avenge” President Trump allegedly opened fire at concertgoers at a concert in Mexico, killing at least one, injuring several others, and leading to a hostage situation.

Witnesses said the gunman, who according to a Twitter account was named Aedan Dzaldana and was in his early 20s, fired several shots at concertgoers, including a person who suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the head. The New York Times reported that Mr. Dzaldana appears to be part of the “Unidos por la Paz” or United for Peace and Justice group, one of the most popular groups in Mexico.

A video posted by a Twitter account belonging to Mr. Dzaldana’s father and showing him speaking with his son at a news conference on Thursday in which police said they had recovered the body of the female concertgoer, showed him speaking to the camera about wanting to kill Mr. Trump. “He wants to kill him. He wants to kill him,” the father said.

The New York Times notes that the shooting appeared to be carried out by a faction of the self-described violent far-right group Patriot Party of Mexico, and that it has a history of anti-immigrant rhetoric and violence.

The group was founded by Francisco Javier “El Chapo” Guzman Sánchez, who was extradited to the United States to serve a life sentence for running a sprawling illegal drug operation known as “The Sinaloa.” He was nicknamed “El Mencho” while living in Mexico.
